Adding to Tourism Training. (17 September, 1996)

A new Management Advancement Programme (MAP) for the hospitality and tourism industry has been introduced at the Wits Business School. The programme is a part-time course designed for managers in the hospitality, tourism and allied service industries.

'Only a limited number of private and public institutions offer training in tourism and hospitality services at tertiary level,' said Hospitality Industries Training Board Executive Director Tony Ansara. 'At present, South Africa only has the capacity to train 10% of the 400 000 workers expected to enter the tourism industry by the year 2000.'

Topics covered in the course include human resource management, negotiation skills and service industry management. 'The programme has been adapted to accommodate the nature of the hospitality industry,' said Wits Business School's executive education director John Ford. 'So participants are required to attend two afternoon sessions a week.'

The programme will run annually from February to November and any enquiries should be directed to the course coordinator, Debbie Sachs, at Tel (011) 488-5600 or 488-5637. Courtesy of the Pretoria News.
